Jake is a Labrador Retriever Mix and he was born in February 1997.
He used to belong to another family member and we were supposed to
watch him over a weekend. Well, as it turned out the weekend stay
turned into a new permanent home for this 6 month old cuddly
puppy. My husband wasn't very pleased with the new addition back
then but now Jake is a big part of our family.
He used to be a typical puppy- chewing on anything he could sink his
puppy teeth in, digging holes in the back yard, etc. He almost
drowned in our pool when he decided to try to walk on the solar
cover early one morning. Luckily I heard the noise and I rushed to
his rescue. He was terrified and still to this day won't go into any
water. After a lot of work we were able to get him used to taking
baths and now he loves hopping in the bathtub.
He loves going for car rides, walks on the beach, naps with
"Mom", and of course: Treats! He shares his home with "Baby"- a
black domestic short-haired cat and two gerbils- "Atticus" and
"Macbeth".
Jake had a major surgery in June of 2007 where they removed a 6
and 3/4 pound tumor from his spleen. He since has completely
recovered and is accompanying me to work every day.
